Housatonic Habitat for Humanity has launched The Veterans Initiative to provide veterans with housing and volunteer opportunities.

“There is no one size fits all approach to the transition from military to civilian life,” Housatonic Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Fran Normann said in a statement. “A home that they can call their own is the key.”

In partnership with the Connecticut Veterans Chamber of Commerce, local firms and other veterans’ organizations, The Veterans Initiative supports local veterans with homeownership, as well as home repair and volunteer programs within their communities.

“We connect them with volunteer opportunities [providing] peer support that is crucial to post service,” Normann said. “Not surprisingly, 92 percent of veterans want to continue serving their country after leaving the military; we offer action-oriented programs that allow them to do just that.”
