Supporting reports of New York residents fleeing the city in search of suburban safety, United Van Lines reports Connecticut was the third most popular place to move in the months of March through August.

The report found higher outbound move requests from New York City and San Francisco as compared to nationwide averages. While outbound move requests from New York were down 1 percent from the national average in April 2020, outbound interest from the state jumped to 55 percent above the average in May 2020. At the end of August 2020, outbound move requests from New York were 52 percent higher than the national average.

The median sale price of a single-family home in Fairfield County jumped more than $100,000 to $587,000 in August 2020 versus the same month in 2019, according to a report from The Warren Group, publisher of The Commercial Record. The number of sales was up by 40 percent year over year. Year to date the median price is up 13 percent in Fairfield, and the number of sales up 3 percent.

Statewide, the median sale price in August was up 15 percent year over year, and the number of sales up 24 percent. Year to date, the statewide median is up 8 percent and the number of sales about the same.

The survey also found that the pandemic’s influence on moving decisions has increased over time.
