A developer wants to replace a Meriden grocery store with a self-storage facility.

National retail landlord Dealpoint Merrill, owner of a shopping plaza at 502 West Main St., has filed plans with the city Zoning Board of Appeals asking for a variance to convert a vacant big-box retail building and a former Stop & Shop store in the plaza to a self-storage facility.

The board is scheduled to hear the plans Monday.

Current plaza tenants include Family Dollar, a restaurant and a dentist’s office.
