A retail building in a high-traffic area of Wethersfield has traded hands for $1.16 million.

The building at 1199 Silas Deane Highway had recently been upgraded by the owner after the last tenant – a gym – vacated the property some time ago. Updates included a refaced exterior, repaved parking lot and new HVAC system.

The 15,500-square-foot building was built in 1974 and sits on a 1.77-acre lot. It was last sold in 2019 for $450,000. According to town records, the property was most recently appraised at $1.67 million.

The seller in the 2021 transaction,  New Haven-based 1199 Silas Deane Assoc., was represented by Jay Morris of O,R&L Commercial, and the New York City-based buyer, Supernova Acquisitions.

O,R&L said in a statement that Supernova plans to remodel the interior for a new tenant, Florida-based childcare provider Children of America. The Wethersfield location will be its first in Connecticut.
