A 2.7-acre parcel next to a growing life science hub north of downtown New Haven has been officially cleaned of radioactive contamination.

The ex-General Electric factory at 71 Shelton Ave. has been dismantled and the ground decontaminated, the New Haven Independent reports, with federal inspectors declaring there are now no restrictions on its future use.

The property sits across the street from a large multifamily development planned by New York City-based Ironburgh Organization and a stone’s throw from an office-lab-apartment complex being developed at the former Winchester Arms factory site that is serving as an incubator for many local biotech firms.
