Thomaston Savings Bank’s charitable foundation has awarded a $1,500 grant to the Lions Low Vision Centers (LLVC). The grant will provide for continued financial support for the Saint Mary’s Hospital Health & Wellness Center in Waterbury and Saint Mary’s Physical Therapy of Naugatuck.
The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation is a longtime supporter of LLVC, which treats patients who have vision loss that can no longer be corrected by a medical procedure or treatment, LLVC said in a statement. After referral to LLVC by their eye care physician, patients are evaluated and provided with various low vision devices free of charge, which allow them to live a more comfortable and productive life.
According to the Connecticut Departments of Rehabilitation & Adult Services, Connecticut has a low vision prevalence rate of 1.65 percent, approximately 59,000 people in the state. Lions Low Vision Centers are also located in Bridgeport, Danbury, Derby, Greenwich, Meriden, North Haven and Southbury.
“[W]e would like to extend our appreciation to the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation for this grant,” LLVC said in the statement. “The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation has shown that they are true supporters of our shared common community and have a real sense of the needs for outreach programs such as ours. Non-profit organizations depend on grants from foundations, like the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation, and others make it possible for LLVC to continue support services in the Waterbury community.”
