A Hartford Realtor has been honored with the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors’ Good Neighbor Award in recognition of her charitable work on behalf of the CT Brain Tumor Alliance (CTBTA).

Susan Shimkus Lemkuil, a Realtor with SML Real Estate Inc. and a brain tumor survivor herself, has advocated for the CTBTA for over 14 years and has since helped raise money along with countless volunteer hours to support CTBTA, a charity that offers the community four programs in which to assist: patient outreach, patient assistance, brain tumor research and brain tumor program support.

As part of the award, CTBTA received a check for $1,000, provided by the GHAR Foundation.

“Susan is the epitome of what this organization is – she models heart, passion and perseverance and is so well deserving of this award,” CTBTA Executive Director Chris Cusano said in a statement.

Lemukil sits on several local boards including the city YMCA, the site council at Duffy School, Knight Hall School and the Saint Francis Foundation, according to a bio posted n the SML Real Estate website.

The GHAR Good Neighbor Award program is organized by the Community Involvement Committee of GHAR with criteria provided by the National Association of Realtors.

“On behalf of GHAR’s membership, we are so proud to present this award to someone as deserving as Susan. The impact of her selfless volunteer work is a great example the kind of commitment to communities that many Realtors provide,” states GHAR CEO, Holly Callanan.
