As the federal eviction moratorium is set to expire, 34 percent of small business owner survey respondents in Connecticut said they couldn’t pay July’s rent in full.
That’s on par with the national average of 35 percent, according to July’s Rent Poll Report from the Alignable Research Center, formed in March 2020 to track the impact of the pandemic on small businesses.
Minority- and women-owned businesses faired worse than their nonminority peers; 52 percent and 37 percent were unable to pay in July, respectively, versus 33 percent for nonminority-owned businesses.
Ability to pay figures were generally on par with June’s survey respondents.
Connecticut is faring better than its neighbors; 41 percent of small businesses in both Massachusetts and New York were unable to pay all of July’s rent.
