Connecticut is trying to lure younger, talented workers with a new website and Instagram account, both called CTForMe.
The twin marketing efforts aim to highlight “employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, walkable cities and open spaces, arts and culture, the green economy, the environment and sustainability, community impact, and multiculturalism within Connecticut,” Gov. Ned Lamont’s office said in a statement Friday.
The site relies on videos, first-person testimonials, news stories, statistics and career and networking resources to help convince anyone considering a move to the Nutmeg State. The move is intended to capitalize on potential disruptions to workers’ desires thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We know that this last year has had a major impact on where people across the country want to live and work, and Connecticut’s open spaces, smaller cities, and top education and healthcare systems are becoming more attractive now more than ever, including among young professionals,” Lamont said in a statement. “This is the perfect time to highlight all the great and unique things about Connecticut. CTForMe is a new way our younger population can engage with each other and share their personal experiences of living and working in Connecticut.”
The site will add more testimonials and stories as it receives submissions, and Lamont urged residents to share more with state officials running the campaign.
Department of Economic and Community Development Deputy Commissioner Glendowlyn Thames said the state will use the site as a springboard to help corporate recruiters, Realtors, community leaders and business associations attract more residents. A digital toolkit has already been provided to “hundreds” of businesses, universities, economic development groups and nonprofits, the state said.
Since the effort’s soft launch in January, Lamont’s office said, the CTforMe.com site has attracted over 52,000 unique visitors, primarily from New England, new York, California and Florida, with around one-third of visitors interested in the “careers” section of the site. the @CTforMe Instagram account has generated approximately 8 million impressions and more than 162,000 clicks through to the CTforMe.com website.
