Torrington Savings Bank’s charitable foundation awarded more than $90,000 during its spring grant cycle, including several grants for affordable housing projects.

The Torrington Savings Foundation provided grants totaling $93,880 toward the foundation’s mission of investing in community revitalization through neighborhood renewal and education initiatives, the bank said in a statement.

Recipients included LARC’s Autism Resource Center, which provides services to help children and youth with autism prepare for their futures. The center offers programs such as an afterschool club for teenagers and playgroups for school-aged children and their parents.

Also receiving a grant was Girls with Impact Inc. The funds will support an education initiative through the organization’s Entrepreneurship Academy to provide training and recruitment opportunities for girls in the region.

Several organizations received grants to support affordable housing, including the Foundation for Norfolk Living for a project in the Haystack Woods neighborhood, the Goshen Housing Trust for revitalization efforts at the Goshen Village Marketplace, Greater Bristol Realty Corp. for Pine Street affordable homes, the Falls Village Community Development Corp. to support an affordable rental property on the Bornemann property, and Litchfield Housing Trust to complete Gagarin Place. Garagin Place will consist of eight environmentally sustainable homes to achieve lower operating costs for homeowners.

The Torrington Savings Foundation was established in 2018 in recognition of Torrington Savings Bank’s 150th anniversary.
