Thomaston Savings Bank’s charitable foundation has awarded nearly $230,000 in grants to 111 organizations in Litchfield County.
The second phase of Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation’s annual grant cycle saw $228,908.19 awarded to organizations in Bantam, Bethlehem, Harwinton, Litchfield, Morris, Northfield, Oakville, Plymouth, Terryville, Thomaston, Torrington, Watertown and Woodbury, the bank said in a statement.
“We are proud to contribute to a variety of nonprofit organizations who are dedicated to making the community a better place,” Stephen L. Lewis, Thomaston Savings Bank president and CEO, said in the statement. “We are grateful for the support from our community and look forward to giving back to these wonderful organizations. This foundation could not have been established without loyal Thomaston Savings Bank customers allowing us to be in a position to give back.”
The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation was created in 1997 to distribute funds annually to local programs. Each year, the foundation hosts a grant cycle to provide funding to these organizations, and the grant cycle has a separate phase for each county in its footprint: Hartford County, Litchfield County, and New Haven County.
“The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation is an ideal channel to further propel the bank’s mission to give back and fulfill the needs of those we serve,” Cheryl Lindstrom, Thomaston Savings Bank’s community outreach officer, said in the statement. “The foundation, fully funded by the bank, has awarded an incredible $7.5 million since its inception. I consider it a privilege to represent both the bank and the foundation’s continuing work to ensure the charitable needs of our neighbors are met year after year.”
The foundation’s 2021 grant cycle has considered applications from local nonprofit and government agencies focused on arts and culture, community development, education and youth services, health and human services, and public safety.
The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation will accept applications for grants in New Haven County in October. Grant applications will be considered from local nonprofit and government agencies serving community needs in Middlebury, Waterbury and Wolcott.
Thomaston Savings Bank has about $1.5 billion in assets and 14 full-service branches.
