Jewett City Savings Bank’s charitable foundation has awarded $4,750 in grants to four organizations dedicated to supporting arts and culture, as well as youth services.

“Enhancing the lives of those around us, especially the lives of children, is important as they are the future of our communities,” Jewett City Savings Bank President and CEO Michael Alberts said in a statement. “The Foundation is delighted to have the opportunity to extend a hand to the important organizations dedicated to enriching the communities we serve.”

The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation awarded 64 grants in 2021 totaling over $70,000. The foundation has provided more than $1 million to local organizations since the first grants were awarded in 2004.

Recent grants included $1,500 for Trustees of Roseland Park to assist in purchasing and installing new entrance signage, along with repairs and maintenance for the fences. In addition, the Preston Historical Society Inc. was awarded a $1,250 grant to help address the much-needed repairs and painting of the interior of the Long Society Meetinghouse.

Two organizations received $1,000 grants. Opera New England of Northeastern Connecticut Inc. will be using the grant to help fund the Children’s Educational Opera and Symphony in Northeastern Connecticut. The second recipient, Northeast Opportunities for Wellness, Inc., will be using the grant to fund their Preschool Power Hour program for children 3-5 years of age.
