Jewett City Savings Bank’s charitable foundation recently awarded grants on behalf of Kevin Merchant, the bank’s recently retired president and CEO, and Louis J. Demicco Jr., the former board chair.

“The Bank and Board of Directors express their deepest gratitude to Kevin and Lou, as their efforts and leadership were instrumental to the Bank and its success,” Michael Alberts, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, said in a statement. “In honor of their retirement, and as a thank you, the Foundation granted $5,000 to each to be donated to organizations of their choosing.”

The grants, totaling $10,000, were awarded to a variety of organizations. A grant of $3,000 was provided to Slater Library, and $1,250 was donated to the Jewett City Fire Department. The Griswold High School Athletic Department received a donation of $750.

Donations of $1,000 were allocated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children and the Connecticut Humane Society. Three grants of $500 were given to the Quinebaug Valley Community College Foundation, Project PIN and Griswold PRIDE. Two donations of $250 were given to Northeast Opportunities for Wellness and the Living Faith United Methodist Church Community Café.

In response to a special request, the Slater Library also received an additional $5,000 from the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation to restore windows on the third floor of the historic library building.
