Thomaston Savings Bank funded the production and installment of a new scoreboard at Muzzy Field, a historic ballpark in Bristol.

Muzzy Field provides recreational space for high school and collegiate level sporting events, the bank said in a statement, and is the home field for the Bristol Blues, part of the summertime New England Collegiate Baseball League.

“We are happy to assist in the improvements made to Bristol’s historic Muzzy Field with the purchase and installation of their new scoreboard,” Tony Mattioli, vice president and senior commercial lender at Thomaston Savings Bank, said in the statement. “We are proud to have partnered with the City of Bristol and support the ongoing recreation on the field. Go Blues!”

Muzzy Field has been in use since 1912 for both baseball and football, the statement said. The grandstand was built in 1939, and renovations over time have included a new front entrance, seating expansion and other improvements.

“While there was a lot of nostalgia for the old scoreboard it was unfortunately at the end of its lifespan and Thomaston Savings Bank came forward to purchase the new scoreboard,” Josh Medeiros, Bristol’s superintendent of parks, recreation, youth and community services, said in the statement. “In a challenging fiscal climate, community partnerships like this one help us enhance our parks and facilities which benefit all residents of Bristol.”

Headquartered in Thomaston, the $1.6 billion-asset Thomaston Savings Bank has 15 full-service branches, including its newest branch in the Unionville neighborhood of Farmington.
