A former executive for Boston-based construction giant Suffolk will lead a 1.1 million-square-foot redevelopment in East Hartford.

Suffolk executive Charlie Rollins was named senior vice president for Newton, Massachusetts-based National Development, where he will oversee the redevelopment of a portion of Rentschler Field as a 1.2 million-square-foot distribution center known as East Hartford Logistics & Technology Park.

 As an executive for Suffolk, Rollins was responsible for managing Suffolk’s operations in Florida, and oversaw the $3.5 billion Water Street mixed-use development in downtown Tampa in a previous role at Strategic Property Partners.

National Development also announced that a former executive for retail developer Federal Realty Investment Trust was hired to lead its 1.1 million-square-foot Iron Works mixed-use development in South Boston.

Donald Briggs most recently was managing director of real estate at Boston-based Eastern Real Estate. In a previous position at Federal Realty, Briggs oversaw the buildout of the Assembly Row project in Somerville, Massachusetts.
