Jewett City Savings Bank’s charitable foundation awarded $12,450 in grants to local healthcare and social services organizations.

“Our local healthcare and social services providers work hard to uphold their missions of looking out for the well-being of our communities,” Michael Alberts, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, said in a statement. “The Foundation is committed to supporting these essential organizations as they assist our neighbors.”

The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation awarded $1,000 grants to Day Kimball Hospital for its annual appeal and to Griswold PRIDE to purchase locking storage containers for cannabis products to prevent accidental ingestion and overdose.

Special project grants went to three local social services organizations, the bank said. Northeast Placement Services received a $3,700 grant to help enhance the wheelchair accessibility of its sensory garden, and a $2,000 grant was awarded to Thames Valley Council for Community Action to help fund its Senior Nutrition Program. A $1,000 grant went to the town of Plainfield to support the Veteran’s Coffeehouse.

Grants made in recognition of Jewett City Savings Bank’s former president and CEO, Kevin Merchant, were also awarded. These grants, totaling $3,750, went to the Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Connecticut Humane Society, Griswold PRIDE and the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Putnam.

The foundation in 2022 awarded 73 grants totaling $116,000, the bank said.

Jewett City Savings Bank has about $409 million in assets and offices in Jewett City, Brooklyn, Dayville, Pawcatuck, Plainfield, Preston and Putnam.
