M&T Bank has named a new chief financial officer and made other changes to its executive leadership team.

The bank’s current CFO, Darren King, will remain in that role until the second quarter and then move into a position that involves oversight of a portfolio of businesses, including retail and business banking, mortgage, and consumer lending, the bank said in a statement this week.

The next CFO will be Daryl Bible, who will join Buffalo-based M&T in the second quarter of 2023. Bible, who was most recently at Truist Financial Corp., has three decades of experience as a banking and corporate finance leader, the statement said. M&T added that Bible was the longest-serving CFO of a U.S. regional bank.

Bible joined Truist’s predecessor BB&T in January 2008 after spending 24 years at U.S. Bank, including 10 years as treasurer. BB&T had merged with SunTrust three years ago, creating Truist.

“Daryl is a highly respected banking veteran,” M&T Chairman and CEO René Jones said in the statement. “His strong performance as a purpose-driven leader with unsurpassed acumen, including shepherding one of the largest financial services mergers in recent history, will be a key asset to our leadership as we continue to evolve our bank.”

The bank has also appointed Chris Kay as head of enterprise platforms. In his new role, which will begin in the second quarter, Kay will “further strengthen the bank’s core capabilities, including digital and enterprise payments, and enhance other core bank platforms while creating greater operational effectiveness,” M&T said. Kay joined M&T in 2018.

“One of the core tenets of our operating model is having a seasoned and deep bench of executive leaders that often serve in many capacities during their tenure,” Jones said. “This has allowed us to build on our experience and learnings for the overall benefit of the business. Darren and Chris will be able to use their unique experiences to help M&T to evolve its business and serve our customers effectively.”
