Another major parcel in Hartford’s Bushnell South neighborhood could become apartments, giving the latest neighborhood city leaders have targeted for redevelopment a boost.

The Hartford Courant reports that a joint venture of developers Penrose and Hartford-based The Cloud Co. have inked an agreement to buy former state offices at 18-20 and 30 Trinity St., but financing relies on historic preservation tax credits.

The state-owned buildings would be renovated into 108 apartments in total, with around 20 percent reserved as affordable housing.

Penrose and The Cloud Co. are active in other major projects in Hartford.

The Penrose-Cloud project would join another adaptive reuse project by Spinnaker Real Estate Partners of Norwalk and a ground-up development from The Michaels Organization.

City officials hope to add up to 1,200 apartments to the neighborhood around the State Capitol and the Bushnell Performing Arts Center, just to the south of downtown Hartford and Bushnell Park.
