Windsor Locks Federal Credit Union has changed its name to Riverbank Federal Credit Union.
The credit union said on its website that the name change, which was effective yesterday, better reflected its open membership. The field of membership includes anyone who lives, works, worships or goes to school in Hartford County.
“Riverbank FCU is a name that the credit union’s volunteer Board and management feel will support our future growth of membership,” the credit union said.
The credit union has one branch in Windsor Locks near Bradley airport, a couple of miles from the Connecticut River.
“We feel everyone in our area is connected by the Connecticut River and it plays a big part in the communities we serve,” the credit union said.
Founded in 1940 as St. Mary’s Windsor Locks Parish Federal Credit Union, the credit union changed to a community-based charter in 1979.
Riverbank FCU has about $86 million in assets and 4,200 members, according to National Credit Union Administration data. The credit union said the name change would not inhibit its success, but instead improve it.
“We measure ‘success’ by how much we give back to our members, staff, and the communities we serve,” the credit union said. “While we value our heritage, nothing will change our commitment to serve these three stakeholders.”
