Thomaston Savings Bank awarded 35 grants totaling in $97,500 during the first phase of its foundation’s current grant cycle, focused on needs and groups in Bristol, Farmington and Unionville.
The bank said its grants went to groups as diverse as the Boys & Girls Club of Bristol and the Shepard Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center.
“We rely heavily on donations and grants to keep our organization operating. This year, we received funds from the Foundation to address the unexpected expense of removing a tree and replacing a fence for the safety of our shelter and its occupants. Thank you Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation for helping to keep our residents and staff safe,” Christine Thebarge, executive director of the Bristol St. Vincent DePaul Mission, said in a statement provided by the bank.
The bank’s foundation holds three grant cycles a year, one each for Hartford County, Litchfield County and New Haven County. Government agencies and local nonprofits can apply for help with arts and culture projects, community development needs, education and youth services funding, health and human services needs and public safety projects.
“The funds received by the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation will help us to provide free music and creative arts instruction, dinner each time they gather, and free transportation to over 25 underprivileged youth in Bristol.” Bristol Salvation Army officer Shareena Echavarria said in a statement provided by the bank.
