The Greater Hartford Association of Realtors (GHAR) issued an acknowledgment for past discriminatory practices and policies. GHAR is determined to ensure the social and equitable growth of the organization, the association said in a statement.

“This acknowledgement allows us to move forward with the understanding of our history of oppression,” GHAR CEO Holly Callanan said in a statement. “We cannot change the past, but we will continue to evolve our organization by developing inclusive, forward-thinking programs and resources.”

GHAR partnered with the Calling All Allies Project and Dr. Brandi Baldwin in 2020 to facilitate an initiative to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion. An audit was conducted to develop near and long-term strategies to ensure inclusivity and understanding to create a supportive environment for both GHAR staff and members.

The association recently formed an Equity Committee, which the association said was instrumental in creating the acknowledgment. The committee is also tasked with identifying the concerns and needs of historically excluded members and developing actions to address those concerns and needs.

“GHAR is committed to moving forward with equity objectives top of mind,” the association said in a statement.
