A pair of grocery store properties in Brookfield and Westport won’t likely be getting the Amazon Fresh stores originally expected to fill them.
According to CT Insider, the locations will now be filled wit outposts of the Big Y grocery chain as part of a four-store expansion that includes two Massachusetts stores.
The storefronts on Candlewood Lake Road in Brookfield and The Post Plaza Shopping Center in Westport were anticipated to play hosts for the Amazon-owned grocery store chain, along with a third location on Boston Post Road in Orange. But a year ago, Amazon executives hit “pause” on expansions of the chain. Amazon also owns the Whole Foods grocery chain.
CT Insider, citing interviews with grocery interview experts, reported that the leases to Big Y were signs Amazon still needed to develop its grocery store concept to be successful.
