The 100-year-old Sam Ash music company has fallen to online competition and will close all of its locations, including the one on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains.
“A lot of this has been the move to online shopping,” Derek Ash, whose great-grandparents opened the first store in Brooklyn in 1924, told The New York Times. “There are so many choices, and to maintain a store with that much selection is very difficult.”
The company initially aimed to close 18 locations in an effort to preserve others, it announced in March, but in the end, closing all storefronts became a necessity, Ash said. The company expects all 42 locations will be closed by the end of July.
