Torrington Savings Bank has appointed John E. Janco as president and CEO, effective Jan. 1, following the retirement of former CEO Jeffrey A. Lalonde.
Janco started as a teller at Torrington Savings Bank in 1973 and has held a variety of officer-level positions, most recently serving as executive vice president and chief financial officer.
"Jeff Lalonde has been an excellent leader for 22 years, and the board acknowledges his many contributions," Edwin G. Booth Jr., chairman of the Board of Trustees, said in a statement. "He guided the bank in a prudent fashion through good and bad times, always maintaining the strong capital position and focus on customers that has been the bank’s mission since 1868. The trustees think John Janco is a strong and natural choice to replace Jeff. John has spent his entire career at Torrington Savings, and he knows the bank’s philosophy and the communities we serve."
Janco currently serves as chairman of the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Board of Governors, board member and treasurer of the Torrington Historical Society, president of the Torrington Club and a trustee of Sacred Heart Church. He has been involved with the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut, the United Way, and the Torrington Parking Authority, among other organizations.
Janco received the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce 2012 Community Leader of the Year Award and was awarded The Boy Scouts of America Good Scout award the same year.
