Nineteen agents from Page-Taft Real Estate’s Guilford and Madison offices recently volunteered for two days to help Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven build a new area home. On both days, they were joined by future homeowner Pam Jeffries, who will live in the house with her two children.
“As Realtors, we are involved on a daily basis with people buying and selling property. Habitat provides opportunities for those who would not be able to experience the joys of homeownership,” said Karen Stephens, Page-Taft’s owner. “As members of this profession, how could we not help to make their dreams come true?”
Participating agents included Stephens, Marie Aiello, Sandy DiLieto, Nancy Gerhardy, Laura Page, Mary Ellen Pascale, Sandra Reiners and Cathy Jane Saffioti from the Guilford office; and Nancy Purves, Steve Adkins, Guy Atwood, Barbara Carney, Amy Etra, Anne Foley, Keith Folz, Harriet Gowanlock, Kate Foley McGetrick, Rosemarie Welch and Bette Zollshan from the Madison office.
The workdays were deemed such a success that agents in the company’s Essex and Old Lyme offices will be volunteering their time for two days in September.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that “seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness.” Started in 1976, Habitat has built 200,000 houses around the world, providing safe, decent, affordable shelter for more than 1 million people.
Coldwell Banker Buys Firm
Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y., recently acquired the assets of The Four Star Corp., which operates as Curtiss & Crandon Realtors in Newtown. The single-office firm will now operate under the banner of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. The newly combined company is now the largest residential real estate brokerage in Newtown.
The deal marks the second acquisition in Newtown for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in the past year. In September 2004, the company acquired Bob Tendler Real Estate, also based in Newtown. With the latest acquisition, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage will now have two offices in Newtown, located at 45 South Main St. and 17 Church Hill Road.
“This acquisition gives us a great opportunity to further expand our presence in Newtown, an area that is thriving and represents the fifth-largest town in the state,” said Peggy Doepper, president and chief operating officer of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y. “We are delighted to welcome the talented real estate professionals of Curtiss & Crandon Realtors to our company.”
The acquisition of Curtiss & Crandon Realtors continues Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s expansion in Connecticut and reinforces its position as the state’s No. 1 residential real estate brokerage in closed sales volume. Including the new acquisition, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage now has a total of 35 offices and approximately 1,600 sales associates statewide.
Established in 1982, Curtiss & Crandon Realtors had a total closed sales volume of approximately $80 million during the last 12 months. The company’s three principals, John Klopfenstein, Merrilee Currier and Jan Wilson, will remain with the office, which includes 22 sales associates.
“Joining forces with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage is a winning combination,” said Currier. “Our agents will have access to tremendous marketing, technological and training opportunities, which will enable us to enhance the services and exposure we can offer our clients. Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage is in touch with today’s consumer and we are thrilled to be under their banner.”
