Municipal leaders from across Connecticut are gathering to discuss politics, electric power and the state budget.

The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, the largest organization of city and town officials, is holding its annual meeting in Cromwell on Thursday.

Benjamin Barnes, the state’s budget director, will open the event with a discussion of the state’s budget situation. Lawmakers are meeting in a special session next week to pass legislation detailing the revised $20.5 billion budget that takes effect on July 1.

James A. Muntz, president of Connecticut Light and Power Co., will talk about plans to improve power restoration efforts in wake of last year’s major storms.

Also, the leaders of the state Democratic and Republican parties will be on hand to discuss this year’s state and federal political campaigns. (AP)
