The city of Shelton has sold four lots totaling 1.63 acres to a developer who plans a mixed-use project on the site.
The former brownfield site – cleaned up under city ownership – will become home to a 5-story, 75-unit apartment building with ground-floor retail, the Connecticut Post reports, along with a publicly accessible “riverwalk” along the Housatonic River. The project from The Primrose Cos. awaits final approval from the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission.
The Naugatuck Valley has seen an uptick in multifamily development in recent months, with a 56-unit building OK’d in downtown Shelton, a 215-unit project pitched for downtown Derby and a $14 million, tax break-enabled development planned in Ansonia. The moves come as Avalon Bay sold its 250-unit apartment complex in downtown Shelton to a multifamily operator representing institutional investors.
