New data from the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis shows that the Connecticut hospitality and restaurant sector saw a big change in its growth rate this spring as vaccines took hold.

The accommodation and food services sector saw its GDP increase by 1.36 percent from the first to the second quarters, the BEA reported, the biggest increase of any sector in the state.

The rebound follows a dismal 2020 for the industry that’s caused some operators to sell out to developers looking to effect multifamily conversions.

Other big winners from the state’s successful vaccination push were: information (1.26 percent growth from Q1 to Q2), scientific and technical services (0.98 percent) and real estate services (0.64 percent). Construction only saw its GDP grow by 0.14 percent.

The state economy grew by 5.9 percent between the first and second quarters, the BEA said.
